ACCIONA is awarded sanitation services for 48 municipalities in southern Brazil

Sanepar (the Sanitation Company of Paraná) has awarded ACCIONA the contract for the concession of sanitary sewerage services in 48 municipalities in the West and Center-East microregions of the state of Paraná, in southern Brazil.

The public-private contract comprises the investment of more than €324 million in sanitation infrastructure, including sewerage networks, pumping stations and wastewater treatment plants, as well as their operation and maintenance over the next 24 years. The project will expand access to sewerage services in the West microregion from the current 25% coverage to full sanitation coverage by 2033.

Likewise, the contract will allow access to adequate and equitable sanitation services for the entire population, improving water quality, which is returned to the natural environment, while reducing pollution. As a result, water-related ecosystems, including rivers, aquifers and lakes, will be protected and restored.

The project, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, will boost access to sanitation services for thousands of people, helping to improve quality of life and further sustainable development in the area.

The contract is part of an ambitious project to serve 112 municipalities in the West and Center-East region, divided into three lots, of which the one awarded to ACCIONA is the largest in terms of worth and the number of municipalities involved. Through these contracts, the government of Paraná aims to triple the population with access to sanitation, with the goal of providing the service to more than 323,800 people within a decade.

This award confirms ACCIONA’s position as a key player in the promotion of sustainable infrastructure solutions, reinforcing its commitment to the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda and, in particular, to the achievement of SDG 6: to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
